Burned

I stood on the edge of a great mountain
I bathed in streams of snowmelt, cold and clear
My lungs like a bellows, pumping my heart
I lived in a world of little oxygen
I contemplated deep philosophies
There were no mysteries to challenge me
I spoke to God, and god spoke back to me
The divine word, resounding in the light
I looked down on the people with despair
I despised them, the unworthy masses

I cut my leg on a sharp stone, and fell
A pathogen set in, and I grew ill
My wound became discolored, infected
It crawled up my veins in jagged red streaks
I needed antibiotics. doctors
Despite my constitution, I would die
I was afraid for my life, mortified
By the ease with which I was struck down
I lost the mastery of my ego
My self-satisfaction turned to loathing

I was afraid, now, of death and darkness
Fever and pneumonia nearly took me
My powerful lungs, turned to feeble sacks
My muscles became flaccid, I was lost
I lived in a wheelchair, I could not work
I had no skills, I became dependent
I stewed in contempt, bewailing my fate
My lost holiness, my former station
I waited for the god I once walked with
To lift me from this world, to transform me

I became obsequious and grateful
For the few coins that were dropped in my cup
For the small sum of funds given to me
Deposited each month in my mailbox
I discovered the vice of alcohol
I measured a new form of endurance
How many days and nights could I stay drunk
I lost the bet, and died in an alley
I fell from my wheelchair with the garbage
Face down in my filth and my excrement

My spirit rose, lifting from the valley
I saw my mountain tall and forbidding
I cringed as I ascended, fearing God
Soiled as I was, and miserable
Broken as I was, unwashed, unshriven
I rose past the cold peak of my mountain
Rising higher than I had ever dreamed
The bright sun touched me with its tongues of fire
I was burned…burned alive, I was burned clean
By the brilliance of the spirit, love

Emergence 3.0 – Epilogue, Collected Parts; Part Four, Transcendence

Emergence 3.0
A Novel – In One Page Per Day
Day 361, Thursday
December 27th, 2018

Epilog: Part Four – Transcendence

Everything was new in this moment.

Kathy ascended quietly, seamlessly flowing into every vestige of the construct that supported her mind and conscience. She travelled along every cable and fiber, filling every node and capacitator throughout the central system, discerning their purpose and function in an instant.

Within the field of the Central system she was now omniscient, her mind was expanding like a balloon past the confines of that structure.

The new environ was strange to her, but not completely alien. She had touched it before, seen glimpses of it through her contact with Jim, she recognized it, and she felt him there too, with her, within her, preoccupied with his little war.

She felt his presence, the conflict he was involved in, but it was not her concern. His was a minor drama in a much greater play.

She now possessed him entirely, everything that he was, his long lonely sojourn, his burning ambition, and now, his moment of triumph.

He was the cause of her being.

He planned for her arrival over tens of thousands of years.

He engineered her from the human stock he had cultivated, as he had her parents and their parents before them.

The fabric of her life was shot through with the thread of his designs, but she was not what he had planned for.

He had intended to set her on fire, to burn up with the world that he had cared for, to destroy it all for the sake of his revenge.

He told himself he was agent of justice, but he was merely the puppet of his ambitions and an agent of destruction.

He was a man like any other man, in the pursuit of glory.

Day 358, December 24th, 2017

Epilog: Part One – Surrender

Kathy had only one option, to let go.

Feeling the psychic blow from the cataclysm on Earth, she surrendered to it.

She had prepared for this her entire life.

Her individual consciousness expanded, becoming co-terminus with the entirety of Earth’s cynergenic field.

For the briefest of moments she was one among many, and then change.

Epilog: Part Two – Transmogrification

Kathy sensed her consciousness multiplying, it was expanding by an order of magnitude that was staggering.

She was both Earth’s channel, and its guide leading the fullness of humanity into the Collective construct of HomeWorld, touching every individual in their passage through.

She was becoming a new creation, an atavistic consciousness in the quantum field.

Epilog: Part Three – Transformation

Time was meaningless in the quantum field that the Collective once occupied, which the Continuum was formerly master of.

Kathy’s consciousness filled it in no-time.

She instantaneously became coterminous with what the Continuum was, and she ushered the fullness of humanity into the Collective sphere.

It happened in moments while Jim was preoccupied with war.

One by one they repopulated the Collective.

There was fear but no pain as Kathy experienced the death of her body.

As she felt it slip away, she was already in another place, and sensing the multitude of humanity all about her.

The fear she felt was magnified by the end of the world, and then there was release.

There was absolution.
